Wire rod is produced on special wire-rod mills or combination wire-rod-section mills and wound into coils by coiling machines. Most wire rod goes into the production of cold-drawn wire up to 0.01 mm in diameter. Springs and reinforcced-concrete fittings are also made from steel wire rod.
